Frequently Asked Questions
Why Join Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouting encourages family fun while providing youth with a safe space to make friends and challenge themselves through age-appropriate activities. It is a program where children and parents feel like they belong to an organization that consistently reinforces worthwhile values like honesty, good conduct, and respect for others.
What Do Cub Scouts Do?
Cub Scouting activities are designed for Scouting families to get in on the fun, and include exploring the outdoors, building projects, making friends, and developing a lifelong love of learning as Cub Scouts earn patches related to their grades.
We focus on interactive activities designed to be fun for children while teaching them about perseverance and developing their problem-solving abilities. In Cub Scouts, there are opportunities to spend time as a family and to do things that help build upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
What's a Den and Pack?
Children are organized into specific groups called dens and meet 2-3 times per month to do Cub Scouts’ age-appropriate adventure activities with others in their den. Dens are organized by grade level and gender. All of the dens (K-5th grade) make up the larger Pack. The Pack, including families, also participates in other special events throughout the year, including service projects, Pinewood Derby®, Cub Scouting’s birthday party, and camping.
How Much Does Scouts Cost?
When compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, there is no doubt that Scouting delivers great value to its members! Costs include BSA membership fees, uniform costs, and nominal activity fees that may be charged locally. Of course, these costs may be offset by unit fundraising and other available scholarship funds. All in, its about $200 per year and we offer up to 100% financial aid. If cost is a concern let us know. Every youth can be a Scout regardless of financial means.

Does Scouting Work?
Scouting works with colleges, universities, and other research based organizations to study the impact Scouting has on youth. These studies help us determine if we are meeting the needs of children and fulfilling our mission.
Tufts University surveyed nearly 1,800 Cub Scouts and nearly 400 non-Scouts under age 12 using both interviews and survey data. Scouts outperformed in all categories!
